It Takes A Village
Powered by Volunteers
WVSC runs on community spirit! Every family contributes time each season — on the hill or behind the scenes — to keep our program strong and affordable. From race days to social events, your help makes it happen. Can’t ski or only free midweek? No problem — we’ll find a role that fits.
Volunteering at WVSC
Our club has always been powered by volunteers — it’s the reason we can continue offering one of the most comprehensive sports programs in the Columbia Valley. The heart of our success is the community that surrounds us.
For the 2025-26 season, volunteering remains a requirement of membership. Each family is asked to meet a minimum volunteer commitment, which is outlined in the program description at registration. If your family is unable to meet this requirement, please contact us before registering — we’re happy to discuss options.
Not every volunteer role requires skiing! We also need off-hill help with grant writing, marketing, social events, and race coordination. Whether you’re on the slopes or behind the scenes, every contribution makes a difference.
Throughout the season, WVSC will provide volunteers for various BC Alpine events, including FIS and Zone race series, as well as our own Lusti Cup. These events not only bring our community together, but also generate vital revenue for the club — helping us keep fees as low as possible.
Thank you for lending your time, energy, and enthusiasm!
A full list of volunteer opportunities is included in your Welcome Guide.
Seasonal Opportunities
Great People, Great Ideas.
Fundraising Committee - Possibly the most important Committee! This group rallies our members, community, businesses in both Columbia Valley and Calgary and helps raise our profile, helping us raise essential funds to keep our club running and grow.
Social Committee - This group makes sure we get out and have a great time getting to know each other off the hill, they also help with social media and marketing.

Weekly volunteering
These slots will be assigned by the club upon completed registration, families may switch between themselves, but it is up to the family to ensure the slot is covered
Lodge Parent (AM 10-12/PM1-3) This role is vitally important to our weekly functioning! Often kids need a bathroom or warm up break or need a band aid and sometimes parents are running late for pick up or need to pick up early. The Lodge Parent is the direct contact between our families and the coaches on the hill and base themselves in Ski Tip Lodge Great Hall and we have split the shifts into AM 10-12 and PM 1-3.
Tail Gunners - AM 10-12 & PM 1-3 slots required each Sunday
A critical role, that will see a seasoned and confident ski adult (this can be any adult family member or friend) join our youngest teams (6&7 years old) on the hill to help load little ones on the lifts and follow the groups down helping to keep groups together. This role supports the coach and by having our adults volunteer it reduces our weekly running costs so are vitally important Parents/guardians will not be paired with their children. They will not be coaching.
There is a requirement for the parents/guardians volunteers to complete an online safe sport course https://safesport.coach.ca/
Parents/volunteers must also complete an RCMP Criminal Records Check. In BC this is done for free online, you will be sent the unique access code when you complete registration. In Alberta you must obtain from your local detachment. We can provide a letter for this. We will also accept if you have it for school volunteering or another vulnerable sector such as sports club.
REGIONAL RACE VOLUNTEERS
Organizing races is our main source of funding and any help with that will be very much appreciated. For each race we need 25-35 volunteers to take on different roles. Some of them are not on snow at all, some require only skis and warm clothes and other require some ski racing knowledge. Please let us know if you have ski racing skills we could use or if you have interest to learn we would love to teach you and have you join us. Don’t be shy, we are a super fun group to hang out with!
There are additional perks SPECIFIC to volunteering at these races, not only are you assisting our club secure our funding you’ll also get discounts from Panorama Mountain Resort
