WHY CHOOSE TEAM WINDY?
Windermere Valley Ski Club: A proud past, a focused future.
What to Expect When You Join
WVSC offers one of the most extensive sports programs in the area — and a whole lot of fun!
For the regular Nancy Greene Ski League program, athletes can expect ~15 days on snow with coaching, plus the option to join additional Christmas and Spring Break camps (pre-registration required for NGSL members).
Once a wide range of fundamental movement skills has been acquired, participants progress into the U10 and above programs, advancing to the Skier Essentials and Learn to Train stages which lead to understanding basic rules, tactics and strategy and refinement of ski racing specific skills. These programs range from 15-70+ days on snow, where the primary focus is to continue to develop solid technical skill execution in all situations and environments at varying speeds. Ski racers begin to understand the use of dynamic, athletic turns in the different training environments to gain or maintain speed. As skiers are becoming ski racers they refine and consolidate their foundational movements and technical skiing skills in structured and unstructured environments.
More Than Skiing
While skiing is our passion, WVSC — in alignment with Alpine Canada — is a proud multi-sport club. In spring (May/June) and fall (Sept/Oct), our Program Director leads dryland training to boost teamwork, strength, agility, and overall fitness. Sessions take place Fridays at 1:30 PM at Mount Nelson Athletic Park and are open to all members U10+. Dryland is included in registration at no extra cost, and we also offer at least two week-long summer camps.
Skill Development & Progression
A coaching team with both local roots and world-stage credentials help athletes grow their skills, confidence, and love for the sport, exploring the whole mountain in a safe, supportive environment. We offer programs for every stage, with the flexibility to move into race-focused teams at any time during the season. These teams train Saturdays and Sundays, with mornings dedicated to technical work and afternoons to exploring Panorama’s diverse terrain.
Lusti’s Cup Tradition
Each month, all athletes join the Lusti’s Cup — a fun afternoon of friendly racing where kids can challenge their teammates, coaches, and even parents! The comradery continues for the whole family on the Mountain Outfitters deck with hot chocolate.
Social Events & Regional Races
Throughout the season, we host casual social gatherings — from après ski get togethers to dinners — giving WVSC families a chance to connect. We collaborate with regional clubs (Team Panorama, Fernie, Kimberley, and Golden Kicking Horse) to attend some events hosted at other local ski clubs, and throughout the Kootenay Zone, depending on the age of the athlete.
“The Windermere Valley Ski Club has been the perfect club for our children’s development. The coaches are outstanding, detailed and thoughtful about the kids and their skiing abilities. It is worth the drive from Calgary to be apart of this amazing ski club”
